A system of education that was founded on rhetoric is now hoping for egalitarianism.

Thank you, John. In addition to your excellent points, Bell's data were misleading— of the 1.1M international students in the US, 50% are grad students (lots of them in STEM fields where domestic applicants have been slim the past decades).

For undergraduates across US institutions, internationals are 5% of students — hardly a massive horde crowding out domestics

Trump wants to position right wing conservatives in key political, administrative and scientific positions to reach cause a long term and sustainable right Conservative shift in key societal areas, including science. Those he cannot bully or "commie scare" out of the way is lured with money and prestige - sufficient in the US for most - even scientists. Every scientists not directly and actively exposing and protesting this is complicit.

If this succeeds, US science will loose credibility for decades.
